I went home to Minnesota over the weekend to take care of some business. I wanted to see my family and friends, I wanted to see the Gophers beat the Badgers in the new TCF Bank Stadium, and I wanted to run my first ever 4.30 marathon. Two out of the three things happened, that ain’t bad. It was a good weekend!
Chris and I have been anxiously watching the Gophers on TV all football season waiting for our chance to see them play in the brand new TCF Bank Stadium. Saturday was the day- we spent a lot on tickets to see our Gophies play the stupid WisconSIN BADgers, the team we hate most in pretty much all of NCAA. We had great seats right next to Goldy, got to see and hear the band well. It was pretty much perfect.
The game was really close and exciting. It was back and forth pretty much all of the 4th quarter. The final score was 28-31, making this the 1 thing out of the 3 that didn’t happen over the weekend. Bummer.
We had a lot of family and friends out on the course cheering for us, which always gives me something to look forward to. Chris’s aunt Mary and his dad Kit made signs for John and I. They also had one that said “Run Like Hell, You Park City Transplants!” I liked the signs, very thoughtful.
In the finish chute. This is at about mile 26 (the race is 26.2). Thank god! The last 6 miles were hell. I kept trying to convince John I wanted to slow down or walk, but he did a great job of changing the subject or convincing me I could just run to that, up this hill, around this corner, to this person etc. He’s an excellent running buddy- I ran the entire race thanks to him.
FINISHED MARATHON #5.
Time of 4.31.13. I’m calling that meeting my goal of 4.30 and if you want to fight me, you run a marathon and tell me where in the race you would like to make up that extra minute.
I’ve run my past 3 marathons with Jennie, it was sad not being out there with her this year. She ran the TC 10 mile and finished with a pretty speedy time! Way to go Jen! I missed you, but know we’ll run another someday. It’s our thing.
I rember Chris yelling at me along the course somewhere close to the end. He yelled all happy at me and I gave him a look of “kill me now”. He didn’t get that and just kept yelling happy, positive stuff at me. What a great guy.
We sing Happy Birthday and “How Many Candles Does it Take?” 6 different times. I got in trouble because I guess you can’t clap and sing for your own song. I like to clap and sing for my own birthday! I want to celebrate with everyone else! Dumb rule.
Nothing beats being at home with friends and family!
