We left Utah at 8:30pm on a Tuesday and arrived in South Africa on Thursday at 11:00am – that’s about 45 hours worth of traveling, including 1 car, 3 planes and 1 bus. Feels pretty good knowing there’s a bed to sleep in tonight versus a airplane seat.
On Tuesday/Wednesday we flew to London and shared an order of fish and chips, only fitting, right? No beer though, because it felt like morning to us though it was really lunch time there, but at home it was still only like 8am.
The next stop was Paris – we arrived there around 7:30pm and found some free arcade games. Chris loved it.
Of course, Chris was instantly good at PacMan, I had to practice a few rounds but eventually made it to level 3. This easily occupied 45 minutes of our 3 hour layover. Awesome.
We tried some French Macaroons – here’s a chocolate, salted caramel and a lemon one. Can you guess which ones we each ate and which one we shared?
At the Johannesburg airport they have beagles as security dogs (you might have to click and zoom in on the photo to see it). I had my bag on the ground with a baggie of apple slices in it and the little beagle came and sniffed them out and then the owner explained to me that I couldn’t travel with fruits/veggies into the country so had to eat them now.
Our bus picked us up at the airport after everyone in the group that was arriving on the same day as us was there. I’m showing off the Big Five Marathon logo in this photo.
Here’s a view from our hotel room. We have a really nice deck.
We went for a walk before dinner and here’s a photo of the sun setting at 5:30pm. Remember it is winter here! Short days and a little bit chilly!
