After much deliberation, I decided to go to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for the weekend. I didn’t get the time off work that I was hoping for, so had to turn what was supposed to be a long, relaxing weekend turned into a quick (but worth it) weekend trip.
Sharon (my sister) and I left Minneapolis at 11:30 am on Friday after I got off an early shift at work. We were paddling into the BWCA at 6:30 pm. Not bad! The rest of my family and our friends, The Browns was already there and set up. Our mission was to meet up with them by any means possible- including a towel signal, walkie talkie, search party if needed. After 3 lakes and 2 portages, we met up with them. Not nearly as bad as I thought.
This is the best invention of the weekend. None of my shirts I was bringing had a hood, so I took the hood of my U.S. Ski Team jacket and brought just that. Everyone was jealous of my hood. I’m so freaking smart!
The bugs were absolutely horrible. We tried everything to keep ’em away. Including, bug spray, Listerine, mosquito nets, and a mosquito graveyard. I collected dead bugs that I slapped and put them on my legs in a graveyard as a warning that this is what happens if you bite me. Bugs are stupid, and this did not work.
