I’m on the Sustainability Task Force at work and we had a Community Yard Sale to help raise funds for the Recycle Utah and some other community environmental initiatives we want to work on. I signed Chris and I up to volunteer on Saturday morning. It was quite the adventure! We sold items from the resort, things employees had donated and some people “rented” a table to sell their own stuff. There was a TON of stuff!
You can see the size of the sale here.. there’s more stuff in the building on the left.
We got there around 6:30am and it was pretty chilly!! Maybe like only 40 degrees and cloudy.. brr!
We sold some old chairlifts like ours, they went right when the sale opened at 7am! A hot item! Chris is helping carry it to someone’s car. He’s carrying the light end – don’t worry about his back! He was very careful all day.
The sun came out around 10am (after it snowed a tiny bit around 8:30). We were so happy! Here’s a photo of Sally and I. She’s on the Task Force too and is the queen of thrift shopping! If only she’d been to The Village.
We priced a new mattress with a sticker that said “Brand new and very comfy! $30!” so we put this sticker on this old one and it didn’t sell. Bummer!
Sally made this one. It’s a table from a restaurant at the resort that was torn down a couple years ago. She was hoping the “vintage item” would draw attention.
Later in the day we set up “displays” to help sell stuff. Look at this nice table setting. Mom, the photo stylist would be so proud. This sold right before the sale ended!
We also set up a desk setting. This whole thing for $20! Chris is modeling how to use it.
I modeled a really ugly coat. I should be on America’s Next Top Model, huh?
A frame! Girl in black hat sold separately.
Here’s most of our team from work. All of us work at Canyons and volunteered to work the sale. It was a big success! We raised a lot of money.. all for the environment and kept a ton of stuff out of the landfill. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Even some Minnesotans are on the sale kick – Look at all this great stuff Grandma got this week at an estate sale! I’m pretty sure she’s planning a big July 4th party! 🙂 Way to go Irene!
