Christopher Neville who’s birthday is on September 20th, 1983 had a MicroEndoscopic Discectomy today to stop the pain in his left leg. They asked Chris for this information 5 or 6 times in various waiting rooms all day. I learned this well. It’s good to know that the hospital double, triple checks everything.
Chris was in good spirits all day. I think Julie (Chris’s mom) and I were way more nervous than he was. I especially got nervous in the prep room as they put in the IV and then again while waiting in the surgery waiting room. After the surgery, when the surgeon came up to us and brought us in a private consult room, without saying anything before getting there or on the way. I was all worried that he surgeon was going to tell us bad news and wanted to prepare us by putting us in there! I guess this is normal procedure- no one told me!
But, it all went really well- the surgeon was very satisfied and feels positive that Chris will recover well because he’s young and healthy. He’ll be out for work for a weekish and be doing physical therapy for the next 6ish weeks then meeting with the doctor again, to be assigned another round of therapy. His recovery shouldn’t be too bad- his wound is no more than 2 inches long. It’s mainly about being comfortable and slowly easing back into a normal routine.
