Saturday was Winter Trails Day, so there were a bunch of places in the Park City area doing free cross country rentals and trail use for beginners, so Chris, Anthony, Jeanna and I went out and gave it a shot. Though I’m not a 100% beginner, I still have no idea what I’m doing and had a lot of fun trying to figure it out.
I take cross country skiing very seriously. I peel off layers and look off into the distance and think hard about what move I will make next.
On our way back, Anthony and I saw this ‘lil guy with a dead rabbit. We watched him drag the rabbit out of the woods and eventually cross the ski path. It’s a short tailed weasel. I just learned that they have a very keen sense of smell and very sharp teeth, allowing them to hunt animals larger than themselves- rabbits are very common. They can hunt under the snow for rodents and have good claws for digging. Their coats change color to camouflage with the season. He kinda looks like my kitty Foursy, but I don’t think Foursy would be a very good hunter- too fat and lazy.
