This is from the Park Record- the local town paper here. This story reminded me of our cat, Ginger who is blind and walks in circles, bumping into things all the time.
Blind moose put down: Wildlife officers Monday put down a young moose in Old Town they say was blind. Someone called a Park City police officer to the southern end of Daly Avenue at about 10 a.m., and an office from the state Division of Wildlife Resource arrived mid-afternoon.
Dave Swenson, a state wildlife officer, says the moose, a bull, was walking in circles and appeared “somewhat emaciated.”
Dale Liechty, the state wildlife biologist who put the moose down, says the animal was in “bad condition” and had difficulty finding food.
“Once the moose is blind, there’s nothing we can do,” Liechty says.
Good news is that Ginger isn’t “emaciated”, more just grouchy. And she’s able to find her food, even if she does have to vacuum the floor looking for it. 🙂
