I like going to Minnesota and I like running and thanks to my friend Katie, I was able to do both things this weekend. Katie signed up to run Grandma’s Marathon last October and convinced me to sign up too. At that time, I didn’t think we’d actually run it. She trained a full 5-6 months, and I trained for 2 and we made the trek to Minnesota and finished it! It’s a race I’ve always wanted to do, and what better way to do it, than with a friend!
Chris and I flew into Minnesota (for our 3rd time this summer.. yes, we have a problem) on Friday and headed straight to Duluth. It’s about 2 and 1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities, right on Lake Superior. We went with Katie and her boyfriend Matt and her best friend Leslie. They were a fun crew.
We got to Duluth and went to pick up our race packets which came with sweatbands. Matt and Leslie look like marathon champions already! Leslie is going to win a bet for growing her hair in a ‘fro! I think it’s pretty gutsy, and looks amazing with a sweatband!
This is Grandma’s Bar and Grill. The race sponsored by this place. It’s right on Lake Superior. It goes way back to when sailors would come to Duluth looking for a good place to eat, they’d go to Grandma’s.
