After this Labor Day weekend, I basically decided Minnesota is THE PLACE to be on this weekend. I got to to to the State Fair and the Boundary Waters in the same weekend. Perfect, right? I also got to get back together with my high school two best friends and have our 1 year wedding anniversary on a Minnesota lake. Perfect.
Arrived. Thursday at the Minnesota State Fair. Time to eat! I went with my mom and Lill – funny to do this after just seeing them like 3 days ago in Utah!
We started with some coffee and a cream puff, and had to get some bacon on a stick to go with it. This bacon was so, so. I’ve had better.
My mom’s favorite thing at the State Fair is Lefse. She had it when we first got to the fair and we went back for seconds!
We went into the U of M building. How do I look as a hockey player?
Of course we had to get some cheese curds!
Here’s Lill and I sharing a wild rice cheeseburger. It was good! A little undercooked for my taste, but Lill loved it and I managed to enjoy it too.
We left the State Fair at 2 and by 3 we were on our way to the Boundary Waters! This photo’s actually from Friday. We drove up to Ely on Thursday after the fair and checked into our outfitters on Friday. Here’s a photo of Erica and Greg’s Honda Fit with everything “fitting” pretty tight, but also perfect.
Jesse and Ty were already settled, so Erica, Greg, Chris and I had to do a few portages and lakes to find them. Here’s one of our first portages.
One of our first lakes.
Successfully leaving another portage.
Look I’m paddling. See! I do paddle.
Paddling, even though Greg is trying to slow us down!
Not paddling, but lookin’ pretty good, right?
Coming into our site!
We met Jesse and Ty and got to our campsite on Fairy lake. It was beautiful!
Ty cooking us some fish he caught while they were waiting to meet us. YUM!
I’m eating really well on this trip so far!
I’ve known these two the longest of all my friends. Erica and Jesse. The three of us are still just as perfect as the days at Richfield High School.
The start of the sunset. Can’t beat this place.
Saturday was our 1 year wedding anniversary, and we decided to paddle (notice me paddling again!) to another lake and just do a day trip to a 8 mile hiking trail and run it. Jesse, Ty, Greg and I were hoping for a 12ish mile run and Chris and Erica were just going to hang out.
Erica and Greg in front and Jesse and Ty on our way to Gun lake to run on the Angleworm trail.
Our run was tough! It was so humid. I was dripping sweat. We stopped at the lake and used Jesse’s Lifestraw to get some more water. I think I want one of these!
After our run, a swim in the lake was a must! Here’s Jesse and Greg. I later joined them and was so chilly the rest of the way back to the site.
I usually wear my lifejacket for extra insulation when it gets chilly – it was a chilly ride back to our site. Here’s a photo of Chris and I for our 1 year anniversary!
I can’t go wrong with this guy with a smile, beard, bandana and a boat on a Minnesota lake. Love him!
Time for dinner! Chris is helping get our bowls ready. Erica and Greg planned out our meals while we were there – it was really nice of them to just make it happen! We really appreciated having more free time (ie State Fair) in Minnesota the day before our trip. Thanks Sittons!
Chris and I wanted to take a photo for our anniversary. Greg photo-bommed our first attempt.
We got married on a Minnesota lake on this day in 2014 and celebrated it on a different Minnesota lake in 2015. Cheers to 1 year!
While we were at it, we took a group photo.
Sunday was time to head home. 🙁 Such a good weekend! We might have to make it a tradition!
