Foursy, also known as Fats or Fatty passed away today. He’s one of 4 cats I’ve grown up with. He was sick for the past couple weeks, and the vet couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Nothing worked and over the weekend, he stopped fighting and my family made the hard decision to bring him into the vet today to say one last goodbye.
I didn’t get to say goodbye or be there with my family, which is one of the hardest parts for me. My family makes decisions together and acts upon those decisions together. Not being there with them hurt me just as much as it would have hurt to give Fatty one last hug goodbye.
When our first cat T.J. passed away, I was only about 10 years old. I understood what happened, and remember my parents reading the book “Ten Good Things About Barney” to me. We made a list of the Ten Good Things About T.J., so I feel it’s right to do the same tribute to Foursy.
1.) He would lay on his back on the porch in the summertime, like he was too hot to even think about curling up into a ball
2.) He would play with Twosy and chase her into her box, then bat at her from the top
3.) His tail had a nice square shape- he looked so handsome
4.) When he’d go camping in the backyard with his camping headlamp on
5.) I would write notes to Santa about how mean he was to Ginger and Twosy, but Santa would still give him presents because he was trying to be good
6.) He was a good houseguest at 1112 16th Avenue during college, though he slept with Hayden and not me
7.) He was an “do your ears hang low” all star
8.) He would eat anything- I remember giving him pepperoni, and he drank water for 30 minutes straight
9.) When he was outside and wanted to come in, he always came to the porch door after waiting in sight of the kitchen windows
10.) He would purr all the time, even after Mom’s hard pets or me sliding him across the kichen floor.
