A little behind on blogging once again! Guess I’ve been too busy running! I did two races within a week of each other and am going to combine them in one post.
Mother’s Day weekend, I went to Moab to run a half marathon with my friend Nicole and her family. There was originally going to be more of us going and then Chris decided to go home and some other friends of mine made other plans, so it ended up being Nicole’s family (her husband Petie, and two girls Zoe and Margot). Instead of setting up my own tent, I slept in their camper and shared a bed with Margot. I got the true family experience, it was a lot of fun.
Here’s our campsite. It’s actually two sites down from where I stayed with Erica a couple weeks ago.
On Friday, we went to pick up our race packets. All 5 (plus Mattie the dog) of us crammed into Petie’s truck. Nicole was crammed in the back between the carseats with Zoe (left) and Margot (right). I got to sit in the front with Petie.
We stopped at a cool park where you could play musical instruments – chimes, xylophone, bells, drums.. tons of stuff! I wish I could have shown it to Erica – I didn’t know it was there!
A glimpse of the musical park. Cool!
Here’s my bed-mate Margot. She’s wearing her Spiderman shirt. She really likes Spiderman.
Nicole and I ran the Thelma & Louise Half Marathon on Saturday. It was an all womens race with beautiful course and turned out to be a really good race for both of us. I got a new personal best (2.09.24) and Nicole ran the longest distance she’d ever run before.
Onto this past weekend. More running! Chris and I did a relay race in Park City called “Running with Ed”. It’s a 40ish mile relay race that goes to all the schools in Park City (and a few other spots) to raise money for public education. There’s 10 legs in the race, with no distance much more than 6 miles. With teams of 5, each runner will run two legs for a total around 8-10 miles depending on their legs. It’s a big local event with teams all dressed up, so we had to come up with a costume!
This is our team- We were The I.T. Crowd because the team is all Canyons IT people except for me. Chris works with Lizzie (left), and Garry and Kim (right). We dressed geeky with some white shirts that Lizzie got at the thrift store and glasses with tape on them from Kim.
The back of our shirts. A little bit of code thrown into the team name. Extra geek.
The starting line. You can see Garry’s bright pink compression socks at the starting line.
Instead of passing a baton, you pass a snap bracelet. Cool, huh?
The teams would move from spot to spot picking up and dropping off each runner. There was a lot of time for adjusting glasses while waiting for runners.
My turn to run! Headed out for about 7 miles from Parley’s Park Elementary to Park City Mountain Resort.
Chris and Garry.
Chris at the end of one of the hardest legs of the race. His 4ish miles were pretty much all uphill.
At the end we met up and all finished together. Kim and Chris are up front, Lizzie and Garry (pink socks) and me in the back taking a photo. What a fun race! I’d for sure do it again!
