Chris and I went to the Utah State Fair on Friday. Our only state fair experience was the Minnesota State Fair, so we expected the Utah State Fair to be similar. It was similar in many ways and disappointingly different in some ways too. Check out all the photos for comparisons and my verdict on each attraction.
My Verdict: Pretty cool! They also had statistics listed, which I liked. You can butter 19,000 pieces of toast with the butter from these guys.
Different: Pig races
My Verdict: The pig racing crew comes from Arkansas and the Utah State Fair hires them as an attraction with 4 shows/day. I’d rather have it be a local thing, but cheering for little pigs with names like Hamela Anderson and Barack o’Ribs Obama is pretty fun.
Same: DNR Building
My Verdict: Very much the same as the Minnesota DNR building but different animals. Here’s Chris measuring up to the size of a bear. He’s almost as tall as a male black bear. He sorta looks like one too with that dark beard and overgrown haircut!
My Verdict: Does the Minnesota State Fair have goats? I don’t remember! These two were pretty cute. We also saw one outside that was getting washed before show and it was screaming Baa! Baa! We couldn’t stop laughing.
My Verdict: I didn’t like looking at the roosters and chickens, I felt like they were going to peck at me. This one is the grand prize winner. Feel lucky that I took his photo for all you to see.
Different: Sea Lion Show
My Verdict: I loved this! I think the Minnesota State Fair should hire this show (Utah hires them to come do the show). I had no idea that Sea Lions could do the conga, clap, stand on one flipper and break dance!
Different: Sweet Martha’s Cookies
My Verdict: The way to eat Sweet Marthas Cookies at the Utah State Fair is to leave the fair, go to the grocery store, buy cookie dough and milk and go home and make cookies. This is not as efficient and the Utah State Fair lost major points because of this method of eating cookies and milk.
